What is Chuck in ya Towel?
Chuck in ya Towel is a project between 139 Club, Brisbane's 'Soul Stylist' Avra Velis and YOU to help raise 50,000 clean towels AND other items for the homeless of Brisbane by Friday April 8th, 2016- the date has moved because of the last minute additional and amazing support from Triple M.
We started out at 500 (and have hit that), moved to 5,000 and have realised from the unbelievable ground swell of genuine support that maybe 50,000 total overall items from across Brisbane and both the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, is NOT unrealistic.
TWO IMPORTANT DOWNLOADS TO PRINTOUT
1. Keeping Track of ya Towels - enabling you to document the number of towels you are raising for Chuck in ya Towel
2. Our promotional flyer and list of Laundry Baskets (aka dropoff points)
Our list is growing. (If you want to offer your business as a drop off point, message us ASAP.)
But PLEASE DON'T STOP! Other items can include toiletries, clothes and loads of other things mentioned in various posts throughout the Chuck in ya Towel FB page.
So why towels?
Because towels are a one stop shop for helping people rebuild their lives.
When people are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, they don't have regular access to showers. This directly affects their ability to access work and safe housing. Showers not only maintain people's health but also maintain their spirit and self esteem.
139 Club provides vital daily living support for the homeless, and part of these services are showers.
In excess of 120 towels per day are used. Add to this the washing turn around times plus a significant number of towels that are taken back out onto the street because people need them, and you can start to do the math and see why we want towels... because they really matter!
If you wanna make a real immediate difference and help put a smile on people's faces and let our homeless communities know we care, then join us and share this initiative with all your friends in Brisbane and beyond! Who knows.... this may just evolve into something really big. It may even spread to other parts of Australia. It really is this simple.
So...... time to start raiding your linen cupboard, phoning friends, and filling bags with new or old clean towels and bring them to 139 Club or to one of our Chuck in ya towel Laundry Basket drop off points
Please though spare one thought: good size, reasonable quality towels are important. If it's thread bare, torn, or so small a grown man couldn't use it, then kindly remember the poor and homeless are human beings too.
For people who aren't in Brisbane please consider making a donation no matter how small.
Homelessness is soul destroying. Please help us help 139 Club rebuild people's lives.
We will also happily accept any reasonable and clean functional clothing you want to drop off.
Every drop of kindness helps become a limitless and practical ocean of compassion. WE CAN DO THIS! HELP SPREAD THE WORD!
